Offensive line at a glance

By Eric Page | No comments posted.

Here is a quick look at Iowa's offensive line:

OFFENSIVE LINE

The sure thing
Seth Olsen is starting for the third straight season and is Iowa’s most consistent offensive lineman. He’s making the move from tackle to guard, his more natural position.

The question
Who’s going to start at left guard? Rafael Eubanks, last year’s starting center, started Saturday’s scrimmage, but he didn’t look good. Julian Vandervelde and Dan Doering split time last season and are in the mix again.

The wildcard
Rob Bruggeman missed all of last season after suffering a knee injury in spring practice. Coach Kirk Ferentz is very high on the former walk-on who is slotted to start at center.

Final analysis
Olsen is steady, as is left tackle Bryan Bulaga, who started the second half of last season as a true freshman. If Bruggeman is as good as Ferentz thinks and if Iowa can find an answer at left guard and right tackle, this unit should be improved.
