Greene, Angerer honored by Big Ten

Iowa swept the Big Ten offensive and defensive player of the week honors announced Monday by the conference.

Running back Shonn Greene and linebacker Pat Angerer were recognized for their efforts in a 38-16 win over Wisconsin. 

Greene, a junior from Sicklerville, N.J., ran for a career-high 217 yards and four touchdowns, scoring on runs of 12, 34, 52 and 34 yards. Angerer had a career-high 16 tackles and two interceptions.

Greene has run for more than 100 yards in each of Iowa’s eight games. He ranks second in the Big Ten and third in the nation with an average of 144.2 yards a game. He has carried 177 times for 1,154 yards and 10 touchdowns. His four touchdowns against Wisconsin tied a school record.

Angerer, a junior from Bettendorf, leads the Hawkeyes with 62 tackles, which ranks 10th in the Big Ten. His four interceptions are tied for the conference lead.

Greene is the first Iowa player since Ed Hinkel in 2005 to claim the offensive honor. Defensive tackle Karl Klug won the defensive award earlier this season.

Iowa (5-3, 2-2) is idle this week and returns to action Nov. 1 at Illinois.
