You need to know/Iowa

— The Hawkeyes open a series of three straight games against instate opponents with a road test at Northern Iowa, a team Iowa has beaten in each of the past two seasons. Iowa won at the McLeod Center 62-55 two years ago and defeated the Panthers 65-46 last season in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes shot 50 percent and committed a season-low five turnovers in last year’s game.

— Iowa’s 80-51 win over Prairie View A&M on Saturday was the Hawkeyes’ largest margin of victory since a 42-point win over Georgia State on Dec. 20, 2006, and the 80 points were the most scored by Iowa since an 81-78 win over Minneosta on Feb. 7, 2007.

— Forward Aaron Fuller showed up for practice Monday wearing a walking boot, but he is expected to be available against UNI as he continues to work his way back from an ankle sprain.

— Cully Payne left Saturday’s game with cramps, but is expected to play against the Panthers.

— The Hawkeyes’ five losses are to teams with a combined record of 30-6.

You need to know/Northern Iowa

— The Panthers have been idle since winning 63-60 at Iowa State last Wednesday.

— This will be UNI’s second home game of the year. The Panthers defeated Northern Illinois 52-45 in their only previous game at the McLeod Center.

— Northern Iowa will be looking to defeat Iowa and Iowa State in the same season for only the third time in school history. It happened previously in 1997-98 and 2006-07.

— Adam Koch and Jordan Eglseder each scored 20 points in the Panthers’ win over the Cyclones. Eglseder earned the third double-double of his season with a career-high 14 rebounds. The 7-footer from Bellevue Marquette leads the Missouri Valley in rebounding.

— UNI returns five starters, and nine of its top 10 scorers from a year ago and is the preseason favorite to defend the Missouri Valley title it won a year ago.

— Coach Ben Jacobson’s team has won four straight since losing to DePaul 60-52 in the opening round of the Paradise Jam. The Panthers followed with wins over East Carolina 74-68 and Boston College 81-69 in the Virgin Islands tourney.
